Celebration of 100th Birthdays for Bridget McKeown (8th January 2014) and John McLarnon (13th August 2014)

Many thanks for all who made the evening such a success.  Thanks to all who volunteered and came to meetings to prepare for the celebration, from the ladies involved with the tea and refreshments, who arranged the marquee and served the refreshments, and those who gave in sandwiches and tray-bakes. Many thanks to Patsy McPeake of Moneystaghan Hall, Clady and Roger Casements, and The Wild Duck for the loan of cups. A big thank you to the combined choirs, to the altar servers and the ushers who helped the liturgy to run smoothly. Thanks to the church cleaners and the flower arranger who prepared the church for the beautiful setting of the mass. Thanks to members of St Vincent de Paul who helped in stewarding of car parks.  Thanks also to St Mary’s Primary School Board of Governors and Principal for securing the use of the car-park. A big thank you to Butlers Marquees, KDM toilet hire, Brian Boyle from Festival Productions for the sound and visuals. Thanks to Damien Clarke for his presentation of Biographies and James O’Boyle who acted as MC. And to Eamon McAllister for his photography all week.  A display of these will soon be put up on display at the back of the Church. If I have forgotten to mention someone, I apologise sincerely, but all the same appreciate your contribution to the celebration. Many thanks to Anthony McErlean for the video of both the Mass and the Marquee Party afterwards.  We will be soon looking to see how much it will cost and how many will be wanting to order it.  We will keep you posted as soon as possible. All in all it was a lovely occasion, very memorable and a great opportunity for the parish and others to come together to mark this un-repeatable event of having two centenarians in the parish in one year.  Who knows what we can accomplish together in the future!

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS

Matthew 16:13-19

1 This marks a turning point in the life of Jesus, and of the disciples. It is the first time that his disciples recognise him as the Messiah. Recall turning points in your own life when you came to some deeper understanding of who Jesus is.

2 ‘Who do you say that I am?’ This is possibly the most important question that Jesus puts to us.   In your heart of hearts, how do you answer this question?

3 Jesus praises Peter for his faith and comments that this was not his own doing but a gift of God.   Perhaps there have been times when you have been more than usually conscious that faith is a gift. Be thankful for the gift you have received.

4 These are troubled times for the Church and the promise of Jesus that ‘the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it’ are an encouragement. What helps you to draw strength from this promise of Jesus? What signs of hope do you see in the Church today? John Byrne OSA.  Email This email address is being protected from spambots.
